The past few months have brought mixed blessings. After a fall during cross country running last Autumn my concentration was directed towards recovery but gave me the opportunity to explore new ideas and to complete another piece which has been ‘back on the shelf’ for a while.
This new addition to my website is ‘In The Beginning’. This is a work I wanted to do as a personal exploration. I began sketching out my ideas some 3 years ago and it took considerable time, thought and research to reach its conclusion.
The story behind In The Beginning.
There have been many events in our family during the past 3 years, at opposite ends of the spectrum. Firstly, the very sad death of my father in September 2015 after a relatively short illness. He is Revd Derrick Cooling, an Anglican priest who fought tirelessly for the ordination of women and spearheaded the campaign in Wales. Then came the wonderful birth of our beautiful first granddaughter Georgia on the 26th December 2015, Boxing Day only 3 months after losing Dad and exactly 30 years after the birth of my son Thomas on Christmas Day 1985.
Little Georgia who is now 2 years old has been a very special blessing, not just to her parents, Christina and Nicholas, but to our whole family. She is an absolute joy. These events brought about many mixed emotions about faith , belief and understanding of the world around us. As the daughter of 2 Anglican vicars, Revds Derrick and Margaret Cooling and all the associated baggage and life events, I have often felt spiritually confused and questioned my faith. My sister is an Astro physicist and has very scientific views, I have explored faiths including Buddhism, Sikhism and also considered the views of the Native American Indians. I have a strong pull towards nature and astronomy, hence, ‘In The Beginning’.
